Taking Anti-Troll Measures

Due to the recent upsurge in troll activity, I have decided to tighten the security for comments on this blog. Anonymous comments will no longer be allowed, and you will need a Google account for identification. To establish a Google account, go to google.com and click on "Sign In" on the upper right-hand corner. If you don't already have an account you'll be prompted to set one up.

My apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. As usual, it's a case of one or two douchebags spoiling things for everybody else.

Oh.., so now anyone who isn't Native-born Oregonian is supposed to be painted into a corner and refrain from stating the obvious when it comes to State-WIDE suckation!?!?

Yes, Bend's weather SUCKS! But why stop there? In the last week I've been from The Couve to the Cali-border and it ALL sucked major azz....

The whole West Coast has been cooler and wetter than average for the past couple of years. Blame it on the Pacific Decadal Oscillation.

But if the entire West Coast sucks, I know from experience that Bend is going to suck even harder.

Man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. I have no patience or interest in comments from d-bags who hide behind "anonymous."

Now that you've blocked anonymous comments, and since your moderating the commentary anyway, how about turning off the captcha?

Will do.

Preciseumundo! While in K' Falls we had one of the most horrific downpours I believe I've ever seen? At least for the 1st. of June.

I really REALLY would prefer to stay clear of living in the desert just so I don't have to spend my retirement wearing Columbia Sportswear hooded jackets up until the 4th of July? ( July is the month that comes after Juneuary )

But if that's what it 'takes' well then I guess that's what it TAKES! We're all adults here and we realize that in the end, the weather 'is' what the weather IS! It's just that some of us -refuse- to pay a premium to LIVE in 10 mos. of slop.

Oregon homes shouldn't cost any more than homes in Flyover Country. Our presence on the "West Coast" is purely geographic. We have nothing else in COMMON with the balance of it.

We have been pricing homes in the Las Cruces, NM area. You can get a spectacular one -- 2,000 sq. ft., three bedrooms, two or three baths, pool -- for $250,000. For what Bend has to offer, prices here are still WAY out of line. I believe many people here haven't figured out yet -- or maybe just refuse to admit -- that the absurd real estate prices of the mid-2000s were driven by speculation, not true demand (i.e., "everybody wants to live here").

"driven by speculation, not true demand"

Oh you mean Build It And They Will Come/PHANTOM 'Demand'? Yeah, never existed other than in the minds of the speculator themselves.

And that's not say there weren't bubblicious prices in equally ridiculous climates? I hear Edmonton, Alberta had a 'boom' too!

But there's time yet to allow this to seek its own level as we gauge the local economies and climate patterns over the next year or three. I don't feel compelled to do anything but research at this point?

We're also considering Fallon and/or Fernly, NV.

I'm almost 65 and retired, my wife is 63 and planning to retire in June 2012, and by the fall of 2012 we intend to be GONE, so we have to make a decision fairly soon as to where we're going. We've narrowed it down to Hawaii or the Southwest, specifically New Mexico.

Blackdog,

Crunch time. There's an awful temptation to want to kill two birds thru uprooting and -buying- a home at the same time.

Who in their right mind wants to pull up tent stakes, only to move into a rental and deal w/ what in all liklihood is an absentee LL, only to repeat the process in a year or two!?

Especially after having allowed just enough time to have gotten settled in. But these are unprecedented times and I'm afraid it's what is called for. Not that you're asking but I'd preserve CASH. Maybe take a 10 or 15 yr. mort. Just a thought?

Haven't seen reports for Bend but the valley was beyond disappointing today. We were slated for 74 and mostly sunny. Not even CLOSE!

If this was supposed to be one of the 'better' days of the week I don't wanna' see what comes next?

Bruce,

Funny to note there's a "WhisperingWinds.info" banner ad on the right! ( Hey whatever pays the bills huh? )

And what exactly are those winds 'whispering' to prospective buyers? BEND SUX 'that's' what! The Suckation continues in full force here in Salem. Glad to get back in the house after a (4) block walk w/ the dog last night. Jacket and hat, in JUNE no less!

But serious question, is the undeniable SPREAD of The Drear to parts as far flung as Boise ( and as far south as SD ) present opportunity, more challenges or just juicy, lovely schaudenfraude!?

Then ASK yourself, if Bend's weather had sucked this bad in the 90's and prior.., would the Bubble ever had been as big as it got? With apologies to Jack and Bend cheerleaders, 'I' think that's one emphatic NO.

Today there's one touting a report for people considering moving to Costa Rica. Interesting.
